Oh my! My sins are too great and numerous?
Some think that their sin is so great and numerous, and that there is no way God would accept them. I want everyone who feel this way to understand what Jesus did for you: God has already forgiven you; you are not saved yet, you are forgiven and offered salvation as the result of Jesus’ sacrifice (1 John 2:2), and the only thing that remains is for you to accept His gift of forgiveness and believe on Jesus and receive the ultimate gift of eternal life. Oh, sure there is something that you will need to do, like change direction and what you were doing that made you feel guilty, or not feel at all.
Some even think they cannot enter a church because they have this dark thought that they are possessed, and the devil cannot enter a church. Well, that is just pure fantasy and self-deception. First, you might not know you were possessed, and the thinking that the devil cannot enter a building is just nonsense. Think about it, Satan (the devil, the accuser) goes before God to accuse the brethren (Revelation 12:10), so what gives anyone the idea that a building would be off limits—really?
To receive this eternal life, there is more to it than just repeating the sinner’s prayer. You really need to understand “that if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” There are several things to consider, a confession with your mouth, like I say, Jesus is Lord. This believe in your heart thing is deep because it resembles awe or reverence. Just like repentance, there is a feeling of regret for what you have done or are doing.
So, if you can understand that your sins are already forgiven, and you want to have a deep and abiding relationship with Jesus Christ there will be this regret that causes you to alter your life direction, then acknowledging Romans 10:9 not only shall you be saved, you will be a new creation, like starting over, and you will not be able to return to what you once were. If you try, it will seem different, as if you don’t belong.
Listen, if you think you are such a terrible sinner, you need to read some history where you will find that what you have done or are doing is nothing but a drop of sweat. There are those who are called pure evil that have done unspeakable things and yet, they accepted Jesus as Lord, and all that unspeakable vanishes.
Anyway, it is all a matter of choice. That choice comes when Jesus calls you and you know when because He calls your heart not your head. When that time comes, I pray that you will remember this post, and write back and let us know we need to welcome you home.
Sincerely
Mike Kovach
