Proverbs 10:9
Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but whoever takes crooked paths will be found out.
I’m not sure an explanation needs to be created for this proverb. So, let’s start with the definition of INTEGRITY:
The quality of being honest (trustworthy) and having strong moral principles (right minded); moral uprightness (honorable). The state of being whole and undivided (devoted). The condition of being unified (united), unimpaired (not weakened).
Proverb 10:9 then speaks about being honest, having a good attitude, honorable, being devoted and not worn down. If applying these attributes to today’s society (secular and religious), there may be some elements of these attributes that are present for short durations. In society at large, you may see these at work, in school, shopping, etc. In Christian circles you will see some of these attributes played out on Sunday, Wednesday nights, or during Sunday school. However, these attributes are usually short lived, and not sustainable by those who only maintain them for a paycheck, or who want people to notice just how Christian or pious they are. Then again, you will not see these played out by the radicals except in the inner circle for survival purposes. Those who claim they are followers of Christ who are not ALWAYS trustworthy, right minded, honorable, devoted, united, and not weakened in flesh and spirit will be found out because they have chosen the crooked paths (witchcraft, divination, sorcery, false gods).
Bottom line: If you are going to follow Jesus (Yeshua) you need to have all the attributes to do so. These attributes however are not taught, earned by work, or being religious. These attributes are only present if you have been born from above or born again as some say. In other words, what you were before is no longer around, you have become a new creation, and indwelt by the Holy Spirit, there is no other way to walk with integrity and follow Christ. It is no longer I who lives but Christ who lives in me (Galatians 2:20).
