When I pray I believe God will do something with it.
Prayer is one of the activities that make human beings unique among God’s creatures. Only human beings can pray to their Creator and Redeemer—animals and plant life cannot pray. In times of great joy (Psalm. 136) or times of great distress, people will pray (Psalm. 107:23–28).
The power of prayer is simply amazing because it changes not only the world, but also the person praying. It touches not only the one praying, but also the very heart of God. During Solomon’s dedication of the Temple, Solomon spoke of the power of prayer (2 Chronicles 7:13–16).
Petitions I have made to God states if it is your will father, if it is not I understand. You see, prayer is not what we necessarily want God to do nor is our prayers meant to be a directive for God to act upon. I have seen my prayers answered in ways I would not expect. I always turn over to God the outcome of my request. There have been countless prayers made where God has acted in accordance with His will to fulfill the request. Usually, an individuals life is changed, or an individuals health is restored. However, when I would pray for God to give me what I want, crave, desire, wish for, etcetera, that prayer is seldom fulfilled, and if it is fulfilled what transpires is a lesson on who’s the boss here.
Look at how Jesus gave us an example for prayer in Matthew 6:9-13.
Father, Hallowed be thy name,Thy kingdom come,Thy will be done, as in heaven, so upon earth. Give us day by day our daily bread And forgive us our sins, as we ourselves also forgive every one that is indebted to us, and bring us not into temptation.
The above is taken from the Codex Sinaiticus the oldest codex and the one that the oldest gospel—Mark was written from, so it is a little different from what most of us are familiar with.
Anyway, the purpose of this post is to simply state that in our prayers, we must be willing to accept that what we ask for is in accordance with the Father’s will and not our own will. We pray for all sorts of things and I suppose that’s okay but when we ask for corporal things such as more money, a better building, a fancy car, a big house, more members in our church and the like I’m not so sure that God will honor those.
Another things is believing that God will answer prayers providing those prayers are not full of nonsensical things. Sometimes we may need to pray over and over again until the petition lines up with God’s will, and for those we care about, and even our enemies.
I don’t wish to abuse the issue of prayer and what people ask God for. I just wish to say that in my prayer life, nothing happened when my prayers were selfish or self-centered. Those types of prayers are all about selfishness. However, when I prayed for God’s will to be done and discussed with God the reason for my request, turning everything over to Him, prayers are answered.
Finally, remember prayer is not a wish, and that answered prayer often does not appear they way imagine it should.
If you wish to discuss it just send me an email and I’ll be more than happy to chat with you.
Sincerely,
Mike Kovach
