Four Soils
You have heard teachings about first soil, second soil, third soil and fourth soil believers, and for many this is a strange way to illustrate the position or station of a believer—young or old.
In (Matthew 13:20-22) Jesus speaks to an audience of farmers in the region is he is lecturing, and he uses agricultural terms to make His point in the parable of the sowers. I am not going to write about this since there are may others who have. I will share a link where a good explanation is given for the four soils. My opening is to let the reader know who Jesus is speaking to when He tells the parable of the sowers. With that said, here is the site that I offer as a good explanation:
As you read the article try to think of other areas in the New Testament where this parable is illustrated. Reason I recommend doing this is because there are some who would use this parable as a tool to judge and accuse others of not being a believer, and that is not the intent of the parable. The parable illustrates what hinders believers in producing fruit, not that they are lost, lonely unbelievers. Jesus shows us the way to be fruitful in this parable, and what to avoid that causes us to stop producing that fruit. Look at (Galatians 5: 19-21) for an example of what bad and good fruit are, and (1 Corinthians 13).
What eludes many is that there are believes of all kinds like there are all kinds of people in societies around the world. There are those who like drinking milk or having peanut butter sandwich, others like vegetables, and others who like a mix, and others who are meat eaters.
What’s at issue here in the parable is not judgment, the parable highlights characteristic’s that are mentioned in Galatians 5. We know each other by the fruit we produce not the words we speak, how we dress, what we do to look good, or how we respond to a crisis. Jesus tells us there are those who believe but are weak, others who are not sincere and lose hope, and those who give into worldly desires. And then there is hope as Jesus points out in verse 20 where the word is heard, accepted, and joy springs fourth. I want to be clear that no judgment should be made in regard to this parable. That we know one another by what we produce, and we should aid those who are not strong and rooted in the faith.
Thank you for your time,
May the Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you, and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you, and give you peace.
