FEAR
2 Timothy 1:7
This constricting emotion contrasts with other intense negative states: anger, anxiety, phobia. Anger incites attack against a threatening object; fear incites withdrawal. Fear relates to an identifiable object or event; anxiety is interpreted as free-floating apprehension and incorporates other emotions with fear. Normal fear addresses a realistic danger, phobia a persistent irrational fear.
Where does fear leave you as a believer? I’m not talking about awe or reverence toward God which is what’s meant by fear the Lord. Matthew 10:28 puts this into perspective for those you believe and trust in the Lord.
As a believer and follower of Jesus Christ what gives you the privilege to take your eyes off Him during trying times by becoming fearful? Simple answer is that you take your eyes off Jesus and instead of moving by faith you doubt and trust in your own thoughts and senses instead of keeping your eyes and focus on Jesus. What this amounts to unbelief, and the peril of unbelief is that it breaks the trust that is the foundation of our relationship with God. I have been through this fear where I did not rely of God to see me through rough patches in life. I even threw the Bible on the floor, jumped up and down on it yelling God if this is what you offer, I don’t need you in my life. I was so fearful of what was happening that I decided to go it alone and do everything my way—big mistake. The result of my unbelief and unfaithfulness was that I lost everything, as Peter did when he took his eyes of Jesus in Matthew 14:29. That was a valuable lesson for me, and after that I would always consult the Lord and pray that He give me wisdom and the need knowledge to see the trial through. The result of relying on the Lord as a partner in my life was everything worked out for the best, like Romans 8:28 states.
If we believe and have faith, then whatever enters life, good or bad, never take your eyes of Jesus. Keep the faith, and no matter what confronts you have faith and trust that Jesus will see you through everything, and that everything will work out.
