Mocking

John 7:1-5
1 And after these things Jesus was going about in Galilee. For he did not want to go about in Judea, because the Jews were seeking to kill him.
2 Now the feast of the Jews—the feast of Tabernacles—was near.
3 So his brothers said to him, “Depart from here and go to Judea, so that your disciples also can see your works that you are doing.
4 For no one does anything in secret and yet he himself desires to be ⌊publicly recognized⌋. If you are doing these things, reveal yourself to the world!”
5 For not even his brothers believed in him.

The brothers of Jesus are believed to be the biological offspring of Mary and Joseph, not any of the twelve.

According to one commentary 7:5 not even his brothers believed in him. This statement provides the context for understanding their remarks in vv. 3–4. Their misunderstanding of Jesus’ ministry is similar to Satan’s mockery of Jesus during the temptation (see Matt 4:5–7).

What I find interesting is how many times through life have anyone of us said similar things to a sibling or friend. Has there been times where we were the mouth piece of Satan by using such mockery, or is this just a human thing, and if it is just a human thing, then who would we belong to?
