Alarming number of American’s no longer view the Bible as God’s word—I wonder why?
One day this week I read a news article titled “Shocking Percentage of Americans Don’t Believe the Bible is God’s Word.” I really wasn’t that surprised, since most of what I have heard from others verifies what the article reveals. What does surprise me is that a lot of unbelief originates from the pulpit. What I mean by this, is some sermons I have listened to I hear words such as: “depending on how you view this,” or “this part of Jesus’ instructions can be seen as controversial,” or “this part of prophecy has already happened, and will not happen again,” or “Nothing in the Bible can be taken as literal instructions,” or Paul was not specifically pointing out unnatural relationships as a sin.”
The idea that this has been on the increase is in line with what the Scriptures has warned us about and what the Scriptures has shown in God’s handline of Israel with their constant unbelief and return to idol worship and always blaming God for not being around. A lot like a broken home where the dad or mom is told by the children that they were not around to watch them grow or to be with them at notable events. So, today what we are witnessing has two sides to it: One side is an apostasy or falling away from the faith we can find in John 6:60-66; Galatians 1:6; 1 Timothy 4:1-3; 2 Timothy 4:3-4; 2 Peter 3:17; 2 Thessalonians 2:3, and Revelations 3:14-22. The other side is more revisionist where the objective is to marginalize the Scriptures, or the Bible saying that it is not God’s word, and the Bible cannot be taken literally. Once this starts, those who are Sunday believers begin to fall away first, then those who are skeptics, then social fall away. Once all this begins, any moral code that existed begins to vanish, strange worship services develop, extra spiritual activity follows, and finally, anything is acceptable. This is the only way unnaturalness can be seen as legitimate and acceptable.
I usually stay away from writing about such things because I try to focus on the gospel message, and assembly practices. However, what is happening today is unambiguous evidence that the world is about to enter a period where life is going to become exceedingly difficult. Christianity will be the first target of the morally bankrupt, then Islam will be targeted, and finally, Judaism will become a bigger target because of the rebuilding of the temple, the return to animal sacrifice, and finally accepting Jesus as the Messiah. I cannot tell anyone when any of this will take place, or if it will take place in my lifetime; I can only say with certainty that today, we are witnessing Paul’s warning to Timothy in 2 Timothy 3:1-7.
I can only hope and pray that God shows mercy on those who turn their backs on him.
If you have any lingering doubts concerning Jesus, I highly recommend the following book:
Person of Interest: Why Jesus Still Matters in a World that Rejects the Bible
by J. Warner Wallace.

J. Warner Wallace is a cold-case homicide detective, popular national speaker, and best-selling author. He continues to consult on cold-case investigations while serving as a Senior Fellow at the Colson Center for Christian Worldview. He is also an adjunct professor of apologetics at Biola University and a faculty member at Summit Ministries. J. Warner was a conscientious and vocal atheist until the age of thirty-five, when he took a serious and expansive look at the evidence for the Christian Worldview and determined that Christianity was demonstrably true. After becoming a Christ follower in 1996, Jim continued to take an evidential approach to truth as he examined the Christian worldview. He eventually earned a master’s degree in Theological Studies from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary.
J. Warner’s professional investigative work has received national recognition; his cases have been featured more than any other detective on NBC’s Dateline, and his work has also appeared on Court TV and Fox News. He also appears on television as an investigative consultant (most recently on truTV) and had a role in God’s Not Dead 2, making the case for the historicity of Jesus. J. Warner was awarded the Police and Fire Medal of Valor “Sustained Superiority” Award for his continuing work on cold-case homicides, and the Cops West Award after solving a 1979 murder. Relying on over two decades of investigative experience, J. Warner provides his readers and audiences with the tools they will need to investigate the claims of Christianity and make a convincing case for the truth of the Christian worldview.
