This is a thought I had when comparing the character of being a believer and that of a martial artist. You see, I have been a part of the martial world for most of my life, either actively participating, or passively studying. So, I thought of the Martial morality and standards that are taught while training in Chinese martial arts. I’m sharing a ridiculously small portion of the Martial Morality known in Chinese as WUDE.
Martial Morality (Wude): Humility, Respect, Righteousness, Trust, and Loyalty.
Morality of Mind (Xing De): Will, Endurance, Perseverance, Patience, and Courage.
Wude: Teachers have long considered Wude to be the most important criterion for judging students, and they have made it the most important part of the training in the traditional Chinese martial arts. Wude includes the standards above, and traditionally, only those students who had embraced these standards of morality were considered to be worthy of teaching. Of the two aspects of morality, the morality of deed is more important. The reason for this is very simple: Morality of deed concerns the student’s relationship with master and classmates, other martial artists, and the public. Students who are not moral in their actions are not worthy of being taught, since they cannot be trusted or even respected. Furthermore, without morality of deed, they may abuse the art and use their fighting ability to harm innocent people.
There is a lot of Bible in the statements above. It is interesting when someone tells me that God only talks to the believers, and no one else; it surely does seem God tries hard to share His character to others no matter their background or beliefs. It should be easy to speak with Chinese martial artist about Jesus since the very principles they live by (if they live by them) are by nature God’s own attributes. God is long suffering desiring all to come to repentance, and God teaches people His character and attributes where most believers would say no way, that God does not talk to sinners. I suppose then, Jesus never talked with sinners, and perhaps His followers never did as well. After all, God placed His laws in the hearts of humanity–no one has an excuse. Romans 2:12-16
Below are a few examples from the scriptures that reveal these principles, character traits, and attributes of God, and demonstrates that God does not simply share himself with a select group of people:
