Turning Human Wisdom
Upside Down as the World Races toward its Climax
Scriptures:
1 Corinthians 1:18–19 (MSG) The Message that points to Christ on the Cross seems like sheer silliness to those hell-bent on destruction, but for those on the way of salvation it makes perfect sense. This is the way God works, and most powerfully as it turns out. It’s written, I’ll turn conventional wisdom on its head, I’ll expose so-called experts as crackpots. (Isaiah 29:14)
1 Corinthians 1:18–19 (AMP) For the story and message of the cross is sheer absurdity and folly to those who are perishing and on their way to perdition, but to us who are being saved it is the [manifestation of] the power of God. 19 For it is written, I will baffle and render useless and destroy the learning of the learned and the philosophy of the philosophers and the cleverness of the clever and the discernment of the discerning; I will frustrate and nullify [them] and bring [them] to nothing. (Isaiah 29:14)
1 Corinthians 1:18–19 (LSV) for the word of the Cross to those indeed perishing is foolishness, and to us—those being saved—it is the power of God, for it has been written: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the intelligence of the intelligent I will bring to nothing…” (Isaiah 29:14)
2 Thessalonians 2:9-12 (MSG) The Anarchist’s coming is all Satan’s work. All his power and signs and miracles are fake, evil sleight of hand that plays to the gallery of those who hate the truth that could save them. And since they’re so obsessed with evil, God rubs their noses in it—gives them what they want. Since they refuse to trust truth, they’re banished to their chosen world of lies and illusions.
Isaiah 29:14 (AMP) Therefore, behold! I will again do marvelous things with this people, marvelous and astonishing things; and the wisdom of their wise men will perish, and the understanding of their discerning men will vanish or be hidden.
Disclaimer—I am stitching too much together here for this simple message, but this is one of those times when making a quilt out of scripture to show hidden treasures can be a little devious. In short, the Message translation I like to use removes the need for commentary, and if you study much, and understand a little of the original languages, then you are aware that there are gems in the letters, and throughout the scriptures that reveal much regarding the paradoxical nature of the Bible. One thing is certain however, our modern translations cannot be taken literally.
Opinion 😇—As it was during the time of the Apostles, and before them the prophets, we find ourselves experiencing much of the same conditions that they experienced, and what they saw coming. What is understood is that the fallen nature of humanity has not changed, and that everything said in the scriptures is proof that our world remains fractured. Those who are unregenerate look upon the follower of Christ and the cross as utter foolishness. In themselves they feel superior, that they are futurist, scientist, builders, progressing toward a utopia that the faithful refuse to accept and know to be nothing be a deceptive trick of the enemy. These progressive self-proclaimed gifts to humanity will be silenced by God himself, and their reasoning and judgment hidden from them.
Eventually, conditions among people of all social classes will begin to strain and eventually collapse. Families will break apart because of their indifference toward the followers of Christ among them. Everything will be about survival. The humanist, those who view the followers of Christ as foolish, and crazy will demand everyone to adopt their beliefs or be thrown out of society all together. As this begins to happen, much anger and jealously will prevail and the result will be nothing short of utter chaos. These humanists will become frustrated and brought down to nothing as stated in the scripture. They will then blame the flowers of Christ for their misfortunes, and they will become enraged because of the deluding influence God sends upon them, just as the message states in 2nd Thessalonians 2:9-12: …”And since they’re so obsessed with evil, God rubs their noses in it—gives them what they want. Since they refuse to trust truth, they’re banished to their chosen world of lies and illusions.”
What the believer needs to do, is follow Christ, and not become fearful of what is taking place or become violent to the point that love is waxed cold, stiffened, absent, and obtuse. We live in a period that the Scriptures talk of: Jesus in Matthew 24, Luke 21, and Mark 13 gives us a peek at what things will begin to happen as the return of Christ nears, and Paul tells Timothy in 2 Timothy 3 what people will be like. In 2 Peter 3, Peter tells us what to look out for: false teachers, prophets, deceivers all around. Throughout this period, and the period to come we must—as followers of Christ, understand, that those who are saved will be filled with the power of God.
There is much more to be said, concerning the verses listed at the beginning of this post, and I cannot begin to cover everything that needs to be mentioned. In the time we have left, either if Jesus returns, or we are taken home, there cannot be any doubting, any holding on to people, places, or things; we are to put all our faith in Jesus Christ, serving Him as his priests, His servants, and not looking at Jesus as a servant to us.
