Betrayed

I will never betray Jesus.

Mark 27:3

Betray: break one’s promise to be disloyal to be unfaithful to break faith with, play someone false, fail, let down; double-cross, deceive, cheat; inform on/against, give away, denounce, sell out, stab someone in the back, be a Judas to give someone a Judas kiss, bite the hand that feeds one; turn traitor, sell the pass.

As human beings (unsaved human beings) that is, betrayal is common.

For example:

  • Adultery, where a person driven be passion and lustful emotions betrays their wife or husband.
  • Love, where the word is used for anything that stirs emotion and no other word is available to the person saying it. This love is disposable and leads to the collapse of relationships because those relationships are disposable.
  • Financial, where greed overcomes commitment, dedication, and honor. This becomes a form of selfish love where the love for money replaces a person’s dignity, ethics, companionship, and love.
  • jealousy, where people become jealous of others, even those close to them, causing them to steal or disparage a neighbor or friend because of it. Think of these sayings: They have a better car than I do; They have a bigger house than I do; They have netter TV and Internet than I do; Their yard one yard of the year and mine didn’t; They are wealthy and I’m not; He or she has a better job that I do. I can on and on, but I trust you get the picture. The result of this jealousy can be destructive.
  • Religion, where a person places more value and faith on the pastor, priest, Sunday School Teacher, organization, attendance, giving, busy work, playing the saint, instead of placing their faith in Jesus Christ.
  • Pride, arrogance, vanity, self-importance, hubris, self-conceit, conceit, conceitedness, self-love, self-glorification, self-adulation, self-admiration, narcissism, egotism, presumption, superciliousness, haughtiness, snobbery, snobbishness; disdain, disdainfulness, condescension, pretentiousness; informal big-headedness, and swollen headedness.

You see, betrayal did not begin when Judas betrayed Jesus, it began in the garden of Eden when humanity decided to agree with the devil instead of obeying God. It was then carried out when Cain murdered his brother Able over jealousy and the stories repeat the same cause and effect throughout man’s existence on this earth.

Remarkably, God so loved His creation He decided to send His only begotten son to become the ultimate sacrifice for the sins of His creation, and anyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. This believe (John 1:50; Acts 5:14) is not simply a saying or ideal, it is an action word that means to believe, also to be persuaded of, and hence, to place confidence in, to trust, signifies, in this sense of the word, reliance upon, not mere credence. Saying I believe has more behind it than most people want to accept. Most people say I believe with the “I believe directed at their belief,” and that’s as far as they go in understanding what they are admitting to.

But how do we overcome all the self-condemning attributes mentioned above? I would suggest reading an earlier post titled “Surrender, Submission/Obedience, Sacrifice” I will say this about that post: most of the professing Christians today fall extremely short of surrendering themselves to the service of our Lord. Most and I say around seven five percent of professing Christians fall into the category of bearing false witnesses which is the betrayal of that persons announced confession of faith and the very purpose Jesus came, died, and rose again.

I pray for all who profess their belief in Jesus to examine themselves, seek out the Lord for forgiveness, and surrender all those attributes listed you may have over to Him and never look back.
