Appeal for Forgiveness and Deliverance

Psalm Six

1 O Yahweh do not rebuke me in your anger, and do not discipline me in your wrath.
2 Be gracious to me, O Yahweh, because I am feeble. Heal me, O Yahweh, for my bones are terrified.
3 My soul is terrified. But you, O Yahweh, how long?
4 Return O Yahweh; deliver my life. Save me for the sake of your steadfast love.
5 For there is no remembrance of you in death. In Sheol, who will give thanks to you?
6 I am weary with my groaning in my bed every night. With my tears I drenched my couch.
7 My eye wastes away because of vexation; it grows old because of all my oppressors.
8 Depart from me, all workers of evil, for Yahweh has heard the sound of my weeping.
9 Yahweh has heard my plea; Yahweh has accepted my prayer.
10 All my enemies shall be ashamed and shall be terrified. They shall turn back; they shall suddenly be ashamed.

Commentary:

Every person who claims to be a follower of Yeshua should look at the Psalms as a source of prayer. We all contend with various trials and tribulations throughout life’s journey, and the Psalms have a prayer for any trial or tribulation we may find ourselves facing.

Today, these Psalms speak to us because of everything happening in our world. We have wars and rumors of wars. We have nations rising against nations. We have famine, pestilence, and overwhelming poverty conditions. We have the threat of nuclear war, food shortages, increased prices for fuel and food, clothing, and everything else. We are under attack from forces beyond our imagination and we are perplexed and anxious about tomorrow. We cannot fathom why the world has gone mad and why we feel powerless to correct the course of events. We pray that everything will turn out okay and that the world will return to the way it used to be.

When reading this Psalm, the reader can tell that the Psalmist is under extreme duress and feels abandoned by God whom he asks to return. He cries out for all the workers of evil to depart and for the Lord to save him when He returns. He feels alone and fearful. He knows God has accepted his prayer and that his enemies will be terrified and turn back. Is there any difference today? We have an abundance of evil workers all around us. World leaders appear willing to accept bad instead of good, wrong instead of right, chaos instead of peace. I hesitate to say this, and I know one will not appreciate it but here it is: We do not curse as David did in verse 10, and it is not going to get better, it is going to get worse, much worse and all believers need to trust the Lord and know that He will return and save us. However, in the meantime, we need to keep spreading the good news and love everyone no matter what. I understand that what I said here is a tough pill to swallow but there is a need for each believer; follower of Jesus Christ to put all hope, trust, and expectation on Jesus and let Him direct our path. Please, know that He will return, and He will protect us in-spite of our unbelief.

Prayer based on Psalm six:

Worship before prayer: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from the evil one. For thine is the Kingdom, and the power and the glory forever, amen.”

Lord, the enemy is all about causing all sorts of unrest and confusion. There are false prophets and teachers all around. Please Lord, strengthen us with your love so we can continue to share your testimony in a darkened world. Encourage us to pray for all leaders around the world and for peace in Jerusalem. Let us not stumble in our faith, teach us to place our hope in you and not any organizations or individuals. Help us to turn all our fears and concerns over to you so we can be free to love others as you love us. Lord, I pray that you return soon, if not right away because if you do not Lord, I fear that many will be deceived and give up. Lord, please help us no matter what we fear or think. You are our Lord and King, and we are sealed by you; keep us from deserting the faith. Amen!
